Larry Crandall Death – On Friday, December 8, 2023, Larry Kent Crandall, a well-liked resident of Battle Creek, died quietly in the company of his loved ones at the AC Flower House, AFC in Nashville. Over the course of his 81 years, Larry demonstrated a strong sense of kinship and dedication to his family and community. Son of Frank W. and Bernadine M. (Marshall) Crandall, Larry was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on May 9, 1942. Larry attended Court Country School while growing up on the family farm and went on to graduate in 1960 from Battle Creek Central High School. His involvement in sports and the school band during his high school years demonstrated his wide range of interests and skills.
Larry’s commitment to learning was further demonstrated at Michigan State University, where he graduated in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in dairy science. Larry carried on the family history of numerous generations by owning and running Crandall Dairy Farms as a fourth-generation dairy farmer. The Crandall Dairy Farms, a Centennial family farm founded in 1883, served as a symbol of Larry’s dedication to farming and his ancestry.
The way Larry worked with his father and then his two sons, Brad and Mark, demonstrated his commitment to preserving the family history. His life’s labor on the farm was a reflection of his tenacity, love of the land, and strong work ethic. In addition to his achievements to agriculture, Larry leaves a legacy of family ties and community involvement. In addition to his personal family, the greater Battle Creek community also mourns his loss because of his commitment and influence. As a testament to his dedication to his family, agriculture, and the continuing spirit of Battle Creek, Larry Kent Crandall’s memory will live on.
